Cardi B Updated a Classic ’90s Hairstyle With Thigh-Length Extensions at the AMA 2022

Cardi B ’90s Hairstyle With Thigh-Length Extensions at the AMA 2022 reminds us of slap bracelets and butterfly clips.

As host of the American Music Awards the last year, Cardi B led us through the night in a variety of flamboyant costumes while rocking a blunt mullet that cascaded down her bum, a dramatic neutral cut crease, and long nude nails. The Bronx-born rapper reappeared to the AMAs stage this year with hair that was still long but styled in a spikey half-updo with a faux side bang.

At the awards ceremony on November 20, Cardi B and Memphis rapper Glorilla performed “Tomorrow 2.” The pair wore matching, contrasting-colored clothes, with Cardi B’s being baby blue and Glorilla’s being bright yellow. They also both had long, jet-black hair that reached their knees.

Glorilla parted her hair simply on the side. Cardi B’s half-updo was a throwback to the ’90s, while Glorilla’s hair was simply parted on the side with slicked baby hairs.

Cardi B’s longtime hairstylist Tokyo Stylez gave her a fake side bang by slicing a front portion of her hair over her forehead. The hairstylist made several parts of her inky black hair into half ponytail, that stock out above her head. Stylez used a GHD Curve Soft Curl Iron to softly curl the tips of the hairpieces.

If you look closely, you can see that the hair at the base of the updo is tightly twisted and curled around itself. The frosty chain around her neck was overshadowed by her lustrous, shiny dark hair. Stylez used a Platinum+ Styler from GHD to straighten the hair.

In the 1990s, this edgy hairstyle was paired with a shortcut as often as peanut butter and jelly, so we’re delighted that Cardi B opted for inches on inches for the American Music Awards. Thanks to Allure.com
